Visit by Canadian delegation |

During the course of one week, the topic of biogas was at the top of the agenda for a group of 20 delegates from Canada. From 26 August to 2 September 2007, representatives from Canadian enterprises, primarily from British Columbia, came to Switzerland, Austria and Germany to visit biogas companies and institutions in order to thoroughly familiarise themselves with biogas technology. In view of the fact that European, and especially Austrian, renewable energy technologies hold a leading position in world markets, more and more Canadian companies are keen to represent these technologies also on the market in North America. The delegation’s visit was organised by the Canadian Trade Departments of the three countries Switzerland, Austria and Germany, which made it possible to present a European, rather than just country-specific, impression of the biogas market. The Canadian ambassador, Robert Collette, gave a welcome speech to delegations in Liestal in Switzerland, emphasising the topicality of this subject.
The programme for the Austrian part of the delegates' trip had been thoroughly planned. Delegates visited a small test plant in Rotholz in Tyrol as well as companies such as AAT Abwasser und Abfalltechnik in Wolfurt, CE Jenbacher in Jenbach and Salzburger Abfallbeseitigung in Bergheim. Both the Austrian representatives and the Canadian delegates were extremely satisfied with the visits to Austrian companies, which meant that all those involved in the biogas technology delegation considered the trip a resounding success.
There is a clear trend towards renewable energy. Especially in countries such as Canada, which is aiming to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and wants to support renewable energy projects over the coming years, technologies such as those already in commercial use in Austria are increasingly of interest.
