After some 12 months of construction, one of Switzerland’s largest biogas plants starts operation in Herisau.
The 3 fermenters are used to convert liquid pigs’ manure and production residues from the food processing industry into biogas and, subsequently, into green electricity.

Remaining residues from the fermentation process are dehydrated and used as fertiliser. The dehydration water is cleaned using a membrane technology and then re-used as service water for the plant.
 When running at full capacity, the plant produces 1,100 kW of green electricity per hour.
